I have to tell you about these knowledge points about dispersants!

Updated: 2020-10-19

Dispersant is to reasonably disperse various powders in a solvent, and through a certain charge repulsion principle or polymer steric hindrance effect, various solids are stably suspended in the solvent (or dispersion). Dispersant is a surfactant with two opposite properties, lipophilicity and hydrophilicity in the molecule. It can uniformly disperse solid and liquid particles of inorganic and organic pigments that are difficult to dissolve in liquids.

Dispersants are generally divided into two categories: inorganic dispersants and organic dispersants. Commonly used inorganic dispersants include silicates (such as water glass) and alkali metal phosphates (such as sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium pyrophosphate, etc.). Organic dispersants include triethylhexyl phosphoric acid, sodium lauryl sulfate, methylpentanol, cellulose derivatives, polyacrylamide, Guer gum, fatty acid polyethylene glycol esters and polyethers, and silicones and Silicone oil, etc.

In the beneficiation process, the dispersant is a type of regulator used in conjunction with collectors, foaming agents or selective flocculants. The dispersant makes the collector or flocculant better interact with different minerals to achieve the purpose of sorting. It is generally used to disperse the sludge and effectively separate the minerals to be selected from the gangue. For example, in the selection of kaolin, in order to remove quartz, iron, titanium and other dyed impurity minerals, the dispersant sodium hexametaphosphate is added to make the kaolin in a highly suspended and stable state, and then a selective flocculant is added to make it One of the minerals (kaolin or impurity ore) forms flocs and settles, and the other is still fully dispersed, so as to achieve separation and improve the grade and natural whiteness of the kaolin concentrate. In the flotation process of sulfide ore, an appropriate amount of water glass is used as a dispersant to disperse the fine gangue mud, so that the sulfide ore and the agent can better function, float out of the slurry, and improve the grade of the concentrate.
